I am rather excited for the Renegade personally, heavily considering purchasing one next spring rather than something used. You can get the peppy 2.4L turbo I4 that has been well liked in the Dart, 4x4 capability, and hopefully a manual. Which all makes about 30mpg on the highway according to FCA. What does Oppo think?

Kinja'd!!!

P.S. I really like the tail lights.

no manual in the US, just read the press releast this morning. 9 speed all the things in the US says FCA

First Impression? 10/10 would mount a rally bar with foglights and DD.

10/10 would bang DD.

Kinja'd!!!

In all seriousness if I was actually getting paid what I should, I would totally buy one to be my practical/winter car. IMO its a rust free original Cherokee …. and thats all I really want.

Is it going to be "liftable," unlike the Cherokee? If so, this has the potential to be something of a modern day, albeit larger, Suzuki Samurai, which would be fantastic.

It seems like a great DD for northerners like myself(woo, Ohio). I really would like one it seems like a great vehicle with a lot of potential.

We need more new little offroaders, and the Renegade is a step in the right direction. I would like to see a two door version, though.

I am actually excited for it too. Girlfriends Mazda2 is getting a bit older and she wants something a little bigger for winter.

Will have to go look when the dealership gets some.

I think it's kind of weird looking. Though to be honest, I think it's part of the draw to a lot of people interested in it. It's definitely a "mold breaker"

And I'd kinda hope for a little more MPG out of it.

Kinja'd!!! wunderwagen wants a longer roof > sm70- why not Duesenberg?
10/07/2014 at 10:28

Definitely! It also has the angled and square look that I think looks best on compact SUVs.

Terrible news, but how good is the 9 speed going to be? I can't imagine it will be terrible.

Michigan here. Don't get me wrong I love #RWDlyfe in the snow, but sometimes just getting to work drama free would be nice. I'll get another Jeep someday for a second car … it will happen.

I don't think all the numbers are out yet so it could definitely have some more efficient setups. What I read on Jalopnik is that all specs will get atleast 30 mpg on the highway minimum I think. That's what FCA is claiming.

I'm in luck, for some reason there are a ton of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers near Dayton so I will be test driving one as soon as I see one on a lot.

I think a two door version would look cool, kind of like a mini Wrangler.

Ya there is two dealers here in Lethbridge, though one is basically trucks and Jeeps and the other is cars and fleet. They do have a 1969 Charger in the show room though.

If I got this, it would be my first Jeep. I think it would be a good choice for an all around vehicle.

Kinja'd!!! Alfalfa > wunderwagen wants a longer roof

It would also be more practical than the Wrangler. Easier to get into, and better fuel economy.

10/07/2014 at 10:40

Kinja'd!!!1

Definitely not. No straight axles, and almost certainly unibody, means difficult to change suspension mounts. Maybe you could slice away some body work and get some bigger tires in it, but it definitely won't be anything like a Samurai.

Of the three I can think of off the top of my head, which all sell the full array of vehicles, I'm hoping the out in the country-side one gets them first. They have always treated my family well even though we never bought from them and only go for service. Nice folks who'll let you test out just about anything on the lot if you have time to kill while getting service.

The funky, square looks are definitely mold breaking considering most vehicles in its segment are more round or pod shaped. I like it though.

It's horrendously complicated. You think a normal automatic works by magic? This thing works by black magic, witchcraft and elves. Despite all that it is said to be OK except that ninth gear is more of an aspiration than a reality.

In trivia news, Honda are going to go against decades of tradition and use this on diesel CRVs. Which you can't get.

My greatest fear for the Renegade is easily the unliftable part. Followed by no Manuel. I was thinking of the Samurai thing myself. We need more 4wd in the likes of the Samurai and/or Vehicross.

We don't get enough diesels in the US. Of course our diesel mixture is shit compared to that in Europe. It makes me sad.

If you listen to Jeep people, it's the end of days.

Never mind the fact that it has higher ground clearance, better departure and breakover angles than a stock XJ, and the two bolt adjustable strut mounting leaves potential for a lift kit, unlike a new Cherokee where the strut mounts were the deal breaker. Or that FCA needs to make money and make FE requirements in that CUV segment in order to keep making Wranglers which are dragging down FE across the board.

Personally I like them better than the Compass, even though I haaaate the nine-speed auto. *shudder*

Kinja'd!!! nermal > Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow
10/07/2014 at 11:50

Kinja'd!!!0

Doubtful. I know you can get lifts for the Liberty and the Grand Cherokee, but they're a bit different since they're *traditional* truck-based RWD biased layouts.

The Renegade will most likely be set up in a similar fashion to the new Cherokee, where it's a car-based FWD biased layout. Plus, you'll be limited by the strength of stock components in regards to gearing and strength if you put tires on it that are too much bigger.

At the end of the day, by the time you spend all of the $$$ and work to get it lifted, you're better off just starting with a Wrangler. It will be cheaper and work better.

Interesting how they added that blurb on to the end. If my memory serves correctly, we were initially supposed to get basically the 500 Abarth drivetrain with the turbo 1.4 and manual, or the NA 2.4 and auto.

I'm down. Im a little sad that its the first non-US Jeep, but I will recover. I think it will be a fun drive in 6 speed manual 1.4T guise and I think it will be plenty of Jeep in Trailhwak guise. Its not for me, personally because its total weight is about the same as my payload for overlanding, but I do think its a neat little machine. I think it will be killer in the mountain west.

Yeah same here. I was thinking the turbo / manual / awd version would be a great small, do everything kinda car for people that live in the city and have to deal with snow a lot. You could probably pick it up cheap though.

I'm still not sold on the merits or reliability of the 9 spd, especially given the fact that it doesn't actually use 9th gear.

10/07/2014 at 12:11

yeah what is up with that anyways? Maybe in German market they use it to push down the autobahn or something? Even the v6 doesnt use 9th. Cant imagine a 4 banger will

With this Trackhawk thing going on, we could see a turbo version of the 2.4 in the Renegade! Especially if it is the engine that's gonna be in Dart SRT. The Dart just needs a hatchback version before we get the SRT.
